"TRON" was a movie that was made famous for taking place within a computer, but anyone that has seen the original movie knows that a good deal of it takes place in the real world as well. In the upcoming "TRON: Evolution" game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, players who are expecting the same kind of real world/virtual world split may end up a little disappointed.
Unfortunately, according to the Design Director of "TRON: Evolution," Chris Whiteside, players hoping to get a glimpse at the real world, circa 1991 (when the game takes place) are out of luck, and will only be relegated to the computer world. Whiteside had this to say about Propaganda Games' thoughts on the matter, "It's something that we've only spoken about. We did think about it, but Anon's a program, and we chose to keep it in what we would like to think is the real world, but obviously on the grid, in his real world."
Whiteside went on to elaborate why this choice was made by comparing the Flynn-developed computer program to two of comic books' most recognizable names:
"I love reading comics, and he is kind of like a superhero character, but he's more like batman, and less like superman. He's kind of like your understated hero, he's not super powerful, it's not like he can win just by clicking his fingers, and I think the cool thing about that is whilst he can do some really cool stuff, you get that kind of feeling of danger throughout the product, and also that feeling of success when you manage to pull something off, and that was something we were very cognizant with the game, that we didn’t want to make this TRON like superman character, we wanted to make it much more down to earth, much more human essentially."
Fans of the movie will soon be able to see for themselves, as "Evolution" will be released this December, in advance of the release of "TRON: Legacy" and will attempt to bridge the gap of time between the original and the sequel.
