"Portal 2" disappointed some people when it got delayed into 2011. Pre-orders are still being taken, though, and GameStop lists a bonus with the potential to be extremely awesome. The concept of co-op campaigns in the sequel already has gamers buzzing, but the retailer wants to entice buyers to venture off of Valve's Steam service for the purchase by sweetening the deal with $5 off and "Custom Bots."
"Pre-order 'Portal 2' and receive GameStop exclusive "Custom Bots" for the cooperative multiplayer game included in 'Portal 2," the listing on GameStop.com reads. The offer applies to both online and in-store orders.
Just how the bots will be customized, whether they come with special parts, decals or abilities, doesn't get detailed in the listing. When I first saw the term "Custom Bots," part of me hoped they were actually going to be tiny figurines or something, but customizable looks for co-op mode would be almost as good.
Obviously, lots of folks are going to want to know more about what these personalized extras will looks like, but they won't be shipping until next year, so Valve and GameStop have months upon months left explain themselves while pre-ordering is still possible.
In the meantime, you can't argue with the price point at $44.99 for PC/Mac and $54.99 for the Xbox 360. Unfortunately, the PlayStation 3 edition still has its price set at a full $59.99, but you can't win 'em all.
