'Red Faction: Battlegrounds' Beta Opening Up To PS Plus Members

Posted 9/10/10 10:30 am EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PS3, Xbox 360

Red Faction Battlegrounds

Now that THQ has made "Red Faction: Battlegrounds" official, they are going to need to some willing beta testers to help work out the kinks for release. It just so happens that the PlayStation Plus service needs surprises to offer up to its subscribers, though, so the two parties appear to have found a mutually beneficial solution.

In addition to early access to the game "Sword & Soldiers" and free "LittleBigPlanet" avatars, some PS Plus users are going to get invitations via XMB messages and email to join the beta test, according to a post from PlayStation Store senior manager Grace Chen on the official PlayStation blog.

The update coming on September 21 will also include free copies of "Zen Pinball," "Echoes – minis," and "Syphon Filter 3," as well as 50% off discounts for "Cuboid," "Savage Moon" and the "LittleBigPlanet: Monster Costume Pack."

The announcement emphasized that only a "select number" of users will be picked, so your $49.99 one-year subscription fee won't guarantee that you'll be among the chosen few to try out this herald for next year's "Red Faction: Armageddon." It does look like you'll need your membership to have a shot at being a beta tester, though, so if it's something that you feel passionate about, you may want to consider subscribing between now and September 21.

Do you want to get in on the "Red Faction: Battlegrounds" beta test? What do you think of Sony's offers to PlayStation Plus subscribers thus far? Share your responses in the comment section below.
