The Mysterious 'Halo Reach' Briefcase - Stuff That Came

Posted 9/10/10 2:07 pm EST by Russ Frushtick in Stuff That Came, Xbox 360

Halo Reach

"Halo: Reach" might be coming out next Tuesday, but a mysterious briefcase arrived with the game's logo emblazoned on it today. What incredible mysteries are being held behind the shiny, metal exterior? Maybe we'll never know.

Or maybe I'll just open it.

Halo Reach

As you can see, it's nothing terribly shocking. There's the game (standard version), as well as one of the new "Halo: Reach" branded controllers. Worth noting that these controllers, which come packed in the "Halo: Reach" special edition Xbox 360, aren't the new, transforming controllers I was so pumped about the other week. Nope, they're basically identical to the controllers that shipped with the shiny black Xbox 360s, albeit with a silver, Reach-y design.

On top of the game and the controller, Microsoft included a copy of Eric Nylund's novel, "Halo: The Fall of Reach." The very first "Halo" novel, "The Fall of Reach" basically told of the Covenant's annihilation of the planet Reach, which was a military stronghold for the USNC forces. It was on Reach that the Spartans were created, so its fall plays a pretty important role in the "Halo" mythos.

Over there on the right you can see a copy of "Halo: Reach Overture," an art book which sets the stage and reveals certain aspects that went into its development.

And lastly, on the left, we have an ONI branded folder which contains...wait for it...a bunch of press releases! Yeah, not super compelling, but hey, at least they put a little effort into making even boring ol' press releases look more like secret Spartan documents.

So there you have it, the mysterious "Halo: Reach" briefcase unveiled. We should be getting the Legendary Edition later today, as well, so stay tuned for more unboxing fun!
