You may recall that "Gears of War 2" ended on a pretty grim note. Humanity's last major city on the planet Cera was basically decimated and the Cogs faced a grave new threat: the Lambent. "Gears of War 3" is the culmination of the trilogy, telling the final chapters of Marcus Fenix and his quest to be as gruff as humanly possible. It doesn't however, take place immediately after the events of "Gears of War 2." To learn what bridged the gap between the two games, you'll have to do some reading.

"Final Fantasy XIV" with all of its lush landscapes and customizable features will appear first on the PC before coming to the PlayStation 3, Square Enix has acknowledged. The MMO is currently expected in stores this September for PC, but won't be available in stores until March 2011 for Sony's console, and the company is blaming "memory" problems for the six-month gap.

The kingpin of torture porn film franchises has yet another game on its way, and "Saw 2: Flesh and Blood" now has an in-store date set for October 19, 2010. The games have a long way to go before they catch up with "Saw 7 3D," which is due out in theaters October 29, but they'll be one step closer after Konami straps "Flesh and Blood" into Xbox 360's and PlayStation 3's this fall, and they've paved its road to release with some concept artwork.

Not only is the U.K. getting free and advance releases of "Doctor Who: The Adventure Games" for PC and Mac; now, they're also getting titles for Nintendo systems. The announcement didn't list specific launch dates but did indicate that "Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth" for the DS and "Doctor Who: Return to Earth" for the Wii would be out "in the coming months," bound for the U.K., Australia and parts of Europe.

In my interview with Ruffian Games a month or so ago, we briefly discussed the DLC plan for "Crackdown 2." James Cope, the game's producer, promised two packs, with the first being Toy Box, which would add new weapons, vehicles and armor colors. He's made good on that promise, as Microsoft has revealed the official details of that DLC pack.

PC, Mac and Linux users have already had the pleasure of playing "And Yet It Moves," but the game's team at Broken Rules wants Wii owners to get a shot at twisting and spinning their paper-collage world too, and just to prove it they've put the game on WiiWare this week. The 360-degree platformer should be right at home with the Wii's already unorthodox controller system, and the price to play isn't bad at all.

Michael Jackson-esque zombies aren't likely to appear when PopCap Games brings "Plants vs. Zombies" to the Nintendo DS in January 2011, but that won't stop them from bringing it to the handheld system with Adventure, Survival and Puzzle modes, as well as mini-games and some exclusive content that won't be found on the Xbox Live edition or numerous other versions that have been spawning over the last year.

Atari's newly registered "Neverwinter" domain names will not go to waste, as the company has officially named a new co-op RPG that will be set in author R.A. Salvatore's wing of the Dungeons and Dragons universe. Though the game won't be slotted for a release until Q4 2011 at the earliest, its story will be meant to coincide with Salvatore's upcoming novel trilogy that begins with this October's Gauntlgrym.

We all waited for more than a decade on "StarCraft 2," and now that the first installment, "Wings of Liberty" has been released, people are already clamoring for more. Blizzard had previously announced that "StarCraft 2" would be released across three separate games, starting with the Terran-centric "Wings of Liberty," followed by the Zerg-centric "Heart of the Swarm," and culminating with the Protoss-centric "Legacy of the Void."

Well color me shocked. Last month's downloadable hack and slash RPG, "DeathSpank," was an enjoyable romp which ended on a seriously head-scratching cliffhanger. I was fully prepared to wait at least two years to resolve said cliffhanger, but it seems that my patience will only have to last until September 21 on PSN and September 22 on XBLA, when "DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue" launches for $15.
