Despite a delay for "Final Fantasy XIV" on the PlayStation 3, Square Enix is moving ahead with an open beta test for the game on PC, and though just how many XP you'll be able to gain after 15 hours of play in one week may be up in the air, the start date of the test is not. Both Americans and Europeans will be getting access next week.
"The 'Final Fantasy XIV' Open Beta Test begins on Wednesday, Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT)!" an update on the game's English-language Twitter account revealed. "We hope to see everyone participate!"
European calendars will be turned to September 1 by the time the beta is open, but they'll still get the same privileges.
If you wanted to be a special participant in the closed beta test, you're out of luck since that just wrapped. If you were really hardcore you would have signed up for that before August 16 and already become a mighty warrior, and the fact that you didn't just indicates that you likely fall into the training-wheels crowd that needs to have XP earning capped on a weekly basis in order to compete with the MMO all-stars out there.
However, if you did manage to get into the closed beta test, congrats! And let us know how it was. All the noobs coming in next week will want to hear about it.
