QuakeCon is in full swing, and John Carmack took the stage to show off his latest iPhone project: "RAGE." Inspired by the upcoming PC/console release, "RAGE" on iPhone is impressively detailed considering the platform. The game runs on id Tech 5 and uses megatextures, which are responsible for the remarkably sharp looking textures on the console and PC version. The announcement makes good on a promise that Carmack made during an interview with MTV more than a year ago.
Unlike "DOOM Resurrection," "RAGE" on iPhone seems to allow full player movement and look controls, just like id's previous FPS efforts on the iPhone, "DOOM Classic" and "Wolfenstein 3D Classic." Carmack also claimed that we'd see even better performance with "RAGE" than in those games, despite the much more detailed graphics. Kotaku has video footage of the demonstration.
Carmack went on to say that there would be a version of "RAGE" launching later this year, with a more full-fledged iPhone release launching right around the console and PC release date.
