Molyneux Not Expecting 'Fable 3' Kinect Support At Launch

Posted 8/5/10 12:00 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, Xbox 360

Fable 3 Kinect

Lionhead Studios founder Peter Molyneux may think you'd be silly to suggest he wouldn't want Kinect support in "Fable 3," but such features reportedly will not appear out-of-the-box when the game ships for the Xbox 360 on October 26. That doesn't necessarily mean that the new sequel will be cast out of Kinect's lineup altogether, but it does seem to indicate that it won't be a Kinect title immediately out of the gate.

Molyneux revealed the Kinect control postponement on a live webcast of The Engadget Show, according to Joystiq. Both Molyneux and Microsoft have committed to Kinect use in the past for "Fable 3," though, so motion and/or voice commands are still likely to come with an update down the road.

If there's anyone out there in gaming with ingenuity to make new controls like Kinect work sensibly in a memorable way, Peter Molyneux is near the top of the list. Creating a game that doesn't need Microsoft's new peripherals and then integrating them after it's on the market raises some questions about necessity and design, though. I just don't want to see brilliant developers wasting time tacking on features motivated by gimmicks when they could be designing games with controls in mind from the ground up, but hopefully that's not the case here.

Were you hoping to see Kinect support in "Fable 3" at launch? How does Molyneux revelation affect your expectations? Share your responses in the comment section below.
