Bungie Preparing New Game For The PlayStation 4 Generation

Posted 8/4/10 5:21 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PS3, Xbox 360

Bungie's alliance with Activision means that the studio may have to learn how to compete with the Halo franchise after "Halo: Reach" launches, and they're looking ahead to that. They're also thinking ahead in terms of hardware, however, and that means that their next game may need to be ready for either an Xbox 720 or a PlayStation 4.

"I don't know if developers aren't 'ready' to kick off a new generation of hardware, but not knowing exactly when that shift will happen is definitely challenging as you begin mapping out a future title," Bungie community director Brian Jarrard told CVG.

Whether or not a new generation of hardware has been launched by the time Bungie and Activision find themselves ready to make an announcement, they are currently preparing as best they can to face a new set of console standards.

"Our next project after 'Reach' has to be planned, engineered and designed to potentially span multiple hardware generations considering we are working on a decade's worth of storytelling and game experiences," Jarrard explained.

Whatever the game turns out to be, it's going to have the exclusive privilege of being Bungie's first post-Halo project, which already puts some enormous pressure on the studio. They won't need a new console to place high demands on their work, but it's still nice to know that they're trying to remain a few steps ahead of the game.

Will it matter to you whether or not Bungie's next game comes out on the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4? Are you ready for a new generation of consoles? Share your opinions in the comment section below.
