PopCap Games didn't wait for their mysteriously teased August 2 date to unload details on their long talked-about Xbox Live Arcade edition of "Plants vs. Zombies." The game has steadily expanded its presence across numerous platforms already, and this September PopCap plans on bringing it to XBLA with a host of new features, including co-op and versus modes, new mini-games and 1920 x 1080 resolution.

"Limbo" is a tough sell. Looking at the above screenshot, you can see why. It's a game that only features blacks, whites and shades of gray. There aren't huge explosions and there's no online multiplayer. It's different, and different can be scary. And, in the case of "Limbo," different can make for a fantastic game.

Activision wants a way to charge for online "Call of Duty" play. Whether or not a video posted by a message board user Sunday represents a first look at what their strategy looks like remains to be seen, but the "Modern Warfare 2" player claims to have evidence that new options appeared on the Xbox Live menu.

A few years ago, some industrious fans of the Unreal engine came together and released a total conversion mod called "Alien Swarm." It was basically a top-down arcade shooter set in an infested alien base, reminiscent of Team17's "Alien Breed." Valve was so impressed with the team's work that they hired them to work on games like "Left 4 Dead 2," among other projects. But that wasn't all. They also had the team complete a redux of "Alien Swarm" using the Source engine. It's that very game that you'll be able to download, for free, today.

"Mafia 2" will still come out on August 24, but if you buy the game new, 2K Games wants to reward you with some free DLC. In much the same way that EA has decided to build an extra ticket booth for used game buyers in front of multiplayer modes with the EA Sports Online Pass, 2K will be making one pack of DLC available exclusively to PlayStation 3 owners on day one.
The only hitch? The DLC won't be free if you don't have a one-time-only access code that ships with new games.

Earlier this week in New York City, EA held a party to promote "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit," the reboot of the franchise coming to PS3 and 360 this fall. There were plenty of artists in attendance, and three hip hop staples took a few moments to talk about their enthusiasm for the game. Check out the video, featuring Fabolous, Lil Jon And Pusha T, up top.

3D was a big part of the Sony E3 presentation this year, and "Killzone 3" will be at the front of the pack as far as titles they'll use to sell the PlayStation 3's display capabilities. Going forward, though, Sony wants developers to be careful with their resolution choices and are thus limiting everyone to 720p for 3D in their official recommendations.

Activision has officially made Joss Stone a Bond girl for "James Bond 007: Blood Stone" and everything is full steam ahead for "GoldenEye 007" on the Wii. Could the N64's definitive shooter one day inspire a 3DS as remake as well, though? Activision would entertain that proposition.

"StarCraft 2" players already know what Blizzard demanded of their computers to run the game's beta test, but up until now the system requirements for the full game have been just outside the reach of the public radar. On the heels of making the official "StarCraft 2" client downloadable, however, they have listed everything you'll need to have to be able to run the game when it comes out on July 27. You can peruse them all after the jump.
