Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video took some inspiration from "Command and Conquer" and she put some tracks up for "Rock Band" earlier this year. Her music is used somewhat less officially in a Sonic the Hedgehog remix titled "Flying Battery Romance," posted by YouTube user spankypark.

"Canabalt" helped popularize the insanely-hard-one-button-platformer genre, and made a name for its developers at Semi Secret. The tiny developer's next time, "Gravity Hook HD," is a remake of a Flash game they actually made before "Canabalt."
Like the popular platformer, "Gravity Hook" is punishingly difficult and encourages a just-one-more-game mentality. It's currently available in the New Zealand app store, and the developer anticipates it'll be out in the US at around 11PM ET for a price of $2.99. The app will be universal, so the single download will work on both the iPad and iPhone.
As an added bonus, you don't actually have to pay a dime to try it out. Hell, you don't even need to wait until later tonight, as there's a full-featured Flash version on the official site right now. Do it now!

After spending time with the near-final build of "Metroid: Other M" last night, I got the impression that Team Ninja is attempting to offer players something they never really asked for.
When I think of the popular tenets of the "Metroid" franchise, I think of the open, explorable worlds. I think of the technology. I think of the hero. What I don't think of is the story. Team Ninja really wants me to wonder about the origins of Samus, how she became the bounty hunter she is today. And I'm worried it's that desire that'll hinder the game's final release. The gameplay is there. The exploration. The world. All the "Metroid" staples.
But the story. The story worries me.

Guillermo del Toro has long professed his love of video games and his desire to work in gaming. In a recent interview, the "Hellboy" director admitted to MTV News that those desires are already a reality:
"One of the things we're announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with a big company. We're going to do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting. It's not a development deal. We're going to do it. We're doing them. And we're going to announce it soon enough."

Nintendo's reviving "Kid Icarus" for the Wii, but Irrational Games is apparently creating something else that leverages the flying fellow from Greek myth's name. Ken Levine and his team love their teases, and they've launched one ominously sedate website at WhatIsIcarus.com ahead of an expected announcement on August 11.

Linkin Park launched an iPhone game earlier this year, and now they're officially moving on to become a part of one of 2010's biggest EA releases. The band will provide the music for a new "Medal of Honor" trailer directed by their DJ Joe Hahn on August 1. The sounds will come from their new album A Thousand Suns' first single "The Catalyst," which will also play as part of the game's soundtrack. And EA says they've only just begun.

The Mighty Thor is still coming to a game from Sega in 2011, and some new concept art shows off what looks to be a "God of War"-scale atmosphere, which is appropriate considering that the title character is the Norse God of Thunder.
The second of the two images posted on on the Sega Europe Blog looks like it could be Muspelheim, home of Thor's fire demon foe Surtur, who once held the Odinsword I assume to be sitting in the background above the lava.

THQ said that WWE games would "be an important cornerstone of THQ’s annual release schedule for the long term" after they finalized an eight-year deal last year. While that doesn't mean that they currently have plans to bring their Asian-market "WWE SmackDown Vs. Raw Online" to the U.S. anytime soon, part of their strategy will involve creating a new mystery franchise to appear along with "Smackdown! Vs. Raw" and "WWE All Stars."

Just because EA Sports wants to integrate new technologies into their soccer simulation development, don't expect them to forget about life on the streets. Their upcoming "FIFA 11" release for the Wii will include a five-on-five street mode to accompany its traditional eleven-on-eleven field matches.

President Barack Obama may have concerns about children playing with Xboxes instead of doing homework, but if those kids happen to be playing "Madden NFL 11" long enough to make it to the Super Bowl victory sequence, they will be watching him as they celebrate. Newly released video from the game shows the President joining in the festivities with his very own Saints jersey.
