Apple promised to go live with a free iPhone 4 case program during a special press conference last week, and they've now made good on their self-imposed end-of-the-week deadline. Apple's original bumper jacket, as well as a list of other alternatives are being offered as an antenna issue remedy without charge to current iPhone 4 owners and anyone who buys one by September 30.
All you have to do to get your case is download the iPhone 4 Case Progam app on your phone, get it running, and Apple will take case of the rest. If you want a more solid case or a little extra pizzaz in the form of some designery patterns, they're making such options available from companies including InCase, Belkin, Griffin, and Speck.
As for everyone who already purchased bumper cases for their 4's, refunds are being doled out automatically for credit card purchases that were made through the Apple Store, according to a report on Ars Technica. Non credit card purchasers will have to bring their receipts into the store to get processed.
Those who bought bumpers from AT&T will have to fill out a rebate form and mail it in by September 30.
In the meantime, Apple plans on shipping their free cases in 3-5 weeks, according the app, which I downloaded and used this morning. With any luck we'll all be holding our phones however we want by mid-August.
