'Mafia 2' Incentivizing First-Time Buyers With Free DLC

Posted 7/16/10 6:30 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Mafia 2 DLC

"Mafia 2" will still come out on August 24, but if you buy the game new, 2K Games wants to reward you with some free DLC. In much the same way that EA has decided to build an extra ticket booth for used game buyers in front of multiplayer modes with the EA Sports Online Pass, 2K will be making one pack of DLC available exclusively to PlayStation 3 owners on day one.

The only hitch? The DLC won't be free if you don't have a one-time-only access code that ships with new games.

"The Betrayal of Jimmy" will feature "arcade-style, city-based missions" and only be available for the PS3, according to a press release. There will be a $9.99 price tag attached to it for those who don't have an access code.

"Jimmy's Vendetta," the second of the two DLC packs, will have pricing details announced later but will show up on all three of the "Mafia 2" platforms. The few details available mention leader board competition and content that will be make you want to go back and replay parts of the game for reasons that will also be addressed at a later time.

Do you like what 2K is doing with their free "Mafia 2" DLC offering on the PS3? What are your impressions of the game at this point? Share your responses in the comment section below.
