Let me start by saying that this is not a news story, unless you consider events which occur in my subconscious news. If so, prepare yourself for some insane, breaking news.
On the evening/early morning of July 9/10, I had the rare opportunity to interview a developer of "BioShock 3" in my dream. Unfortunately my notes were lost around the time I woke up, so I can't specifically attribute any quotes, but I can say for sure that the interview subject was the project lead at Irrational Games, and he was working on "BioShock 3."
The mysterious project lead said some fascinating things about the project which I will attempt to quote from memory.
1) "Half of 'BioShock 3' will take place on land." (!)
2) "'BioShock 3' actually takes place in the same universe as Fallout." (!!!)
3) "'Fallout' vaults will play an important role in 'BioShock 3.' Here, take a look at this one."
It was around this time that I was shown an in-game (in-dream) vault, which looked like the abandoned school in "Children of Men." I distinctly recall my excitement over the enormous scoops I was getting from this interview, specifically the bit about "BioShock 3" taking place on land. (And yet, ironically, not about the fact that Irrational was making "BioShock 3.")
And then I woke up and felt like a jackass.
In the interest of being thorough, though, I did reach out to Ken Levine. He's the creative director at Irrational Games and the mind behind the original "BioShock." Certainly he would be able to confirm or deny anything revealed in my dream interview. In an email, Levine was quick to deny everything:
"You got it all wrong, Russ. I've only got two words to describe our new game: FaceBook and Porn."
Interestingly enough, the night following the receipt of that email confirmed every aspect of Levine's statement. Unfortunately, that dream is still under embargo.
