At first glance, sci-fi, lasers and the Covenant don't appear to be key elements in the newest project from some former "Halo Wars" developers, but a new screen grab does prominently display the word "Spartan." Instead of high-tech weapons, however, the project looks like it will feature skirts and spears.
Microsoft's "Project S" may have more in common with "Age of Empires" that it does with "Halo Wars," according to Kotaku, who posted the screen grab. That makes sense, considering Robot Entertainment is comprised at least partially of former Ensemble developers who contributed to both "Age of Empires" and "Halo Wars."
Their upcoming Games for Windows release will reportedly keep some of the visual and gameplay motifs that were used in "Empires" and bring them onboard for "Spartan" — though the game's final name may change before it hits the market.
I can't say I've been pining for a new "Age of Empires" game recently, and these Spartans don't look nearly as exciting (or sexy) as the ones in "300." Nonetheless, Ensemble had a great run at PC gaming, and whatever Robot has on tap should at least be worth a look-over when it's done.
What kind of expectations do you have for "Spartan"? Do you think it will live up to the success of "Halo Wars" and "Age of Empires"? Share your opinions in the comment section below.
