The BBC's first episode in their "Doctor Who: The Adventure Games" series seems to have put one success story in their hands with "City of the Daleks," and there's a follow-up coming next week, but all of these treats are still locked behind the region-protected walls of the U.K. Nevertheless, the BBC announced that they've topped the half-million download mark without having to leave the Kingdom.

Nintendo made no secret of their interest in 3-D this week when they unveiled the 3DS at E3. They kept their primary media event's hardware focus on portable gaming, though, and anyone expecting to get a glimpse of their console future walked away with "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" and "Donkey Kong Country Returns" announcements, but nothing about a Wii 2. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata shared a rare insight into what's going on behind the scenes in a new interview, though, and the 3DS may not be the only venue where his company decides to play around with a third dimension.

At this point, I think it's safe to say that "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero" are two completely distinct franchises. "Rock Band," which continues to push players to create their own experience with custom characters and additional expert modes as well as a new keyboard controller, simulates the experience of being in a rock band. "Guitar Hero" is now all about rock, punk, and heavy metal -- playing finger-melting solos devised by maestros of impossible solos -- while taking pre-made characters on an epic journey through rock-dom. Oh yea, it's also a game.
Brian Bright, Project Director on "Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock" wants to make sure that people realize that. "It's important that people understand we are not a music simulator. We are a music rhythm game." He stresses that last word quite clearly, and if "Warriors of Rock" is any indication of that, I'd say he's right on the money.

Now, it's no shocker that "Gran Turismo 5" is going to feature breathtaking graphics. A quick play through "Prologue", and it's obvious the development team at Polyphony Digital have an eye for attention to detail. Still, I was a bit shocked when I saw the attention to obscure minutiae during an E3 demo.

Obviously, 2K Marin's "XCOM" series reboot is drastically different from its predecessors. Actually, drastic is an understatement. It's difficult to find too many similarities between the '90's tactical games and what is now a brightly colored first-person shooter.
During an E3 demo, however, 2K insisted that strategy will still play a role in the game.

Activision's Bond game has long been one of the worst kept secrets in the industry. Everyone knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time. As it turns out, the mega-publisher had an ace up its sleeve. We may have known that it had a Bond game, but no one could have guessed that it was working on a redux of "GoldenEye 007," the game that convinced the world that a console FPS could work. Nintendo made the announcement during its E3 press conference, and today I got to spend some intimate time with the game's single and multiplayer modes.

Sony gave "LittleBigPlanet 2" some healthy screen time at their E3 presentation Tuesday, but they didn't put a release date front and center. Luckily, SCEA included "November 2010" next to Media Molecule's sequel on a list that they have since released, and we've got the full rundown of PlayStation Move releases waiting for you after the jump.

The countdown clock on VirginGaming.com is history now, and Sir Richard Branson reportedly made good on his intentions to unveil his new online competition portal at E3. He also brought along a big fat wad of cash.
"Gamers want something new, something interactive and something fun," Branson said at E3, according to Edge. "Virgin Gaming is just that – access to play the best games in super competitive tournaments with anyone in the world and win the biggest prizes and the most rewards."

Bungie has both good news and bad news for everyone who got excited about space combat in their "Halo: Reach" trailer that showed up in Microsoft's E3 media event Monday. The good news is that you'll still be able to fly around in spaceships in co-op mode, but the bad news is that you won't be able to engage in "Wing Commander"-style dogfights during normal multiplayer battles.

The makers of "Flower" over at thatgamecompany still won't have their follow-up project ready to sell before the end of 2010, but 2011 looks promising. Currently titled "Journey," the game has a look that places it somewhere between "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Fallout 3," but according to its description the developers at thatgamecompany plan on challenging "traditional gaming conventions" once again.
