Big-Boned Xbox 360 Gets Price Slashed In U.S. And Europe

Posted 6/22/10 11:49 am EST by Brian Warmoth in News, Xbox 360

3DS remakes

Microsoft announced a new, slimmer Xbox 360 at the end of their E3 keynote, and that means that its bulkier units who still display the red ring of death when they die are selling for significantly less.

Arcade bundles have vacated the $199 mark to make way for their small, black successor and now retail for $149.99, as you can see on Amazon.com and at Best Buy. Elites, meanwhile, have taken a step down to $249.99.

Similar shifts are taking place in the U.K. in advance of the new units' July 16 release there, according to MCV, so it looks like no matter which side of the Atlantic you live on, if size isn't an issue and/or you have soft, sentimental fondness for the RROD, now is the time to scoop up a deal.

In the age of bigger hard drives and smaller hardware, the classic 360 has aged a bit, but these puppies will still play games with the best of them, and $149 is about as nice a deal as you're going to find out there for what's in the box. If I didn't own one already, this would be the moment I'd be snatching one up.

Now, if we can just trigger a similar drop over in Sony's corner of the console market, I will be a very happy camper.

Do you plan on picking up a 360 at its significantly reduced price? If you're buying for the first time, would rather get the new, slender model? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
