'Red Faction: Armageddon' Dated For March 2011

Posted 6/7/10 5:30 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Red Faction: Armageddon

"Red Faction: Armageddon" is no longer just a registered domain name. THQ has now made the new sequel official, and it's slated to arrive on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC next March.

The new title from Volition will continue the Martian adventures of Darius Mason and feature Geo-Mod 2.0 technology and new "physics-based weaponry," according to a press release. That includes but probably won't be limited to "reconstruction technology" and the use of the game's "Magnet Gun." Additionally, both "single-player campaign" and "multiplayer co-operative" modes get name-dropped in the announcement.

The Red Faction website posted a trailer and some images to commemorate the occasion, which takes the series beneath Mars' surface. Notably absent from the both the press release and the website, however, is the meaning behind that other domain registered by THQ, RedFactionOrigins.com.

Given that the "Armageddon" reveal sneaked out before E3, "Origins" could very well be a little extra something being saved to show off in L.A., but we won't know that for sure until the show wraps. Whatever happens, any questions about what Volition has in store for the coming year just got big answer, and the March 2011 release calendar just got one more name.

What do you think of the first shots out of "Red Faction: Armageddon"? Do you think it will make your early 2011 buy list? Share your reactions in the comment section below.
