Square Enix committed to a release date and voice acting talent today with a hefty announcement about "Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep." The PlayStation Portable title will launch on September 7, 2010, and Mark Hamill, Willa Holland, Jesse McCartney, Leonard Nimoy and James Woods will all contribute their voices, though the big reveal didn't include which characters they'll be portraying. Woods would presumably be voicing Hades, which he's done before, and McCartney is listed on IMDb as portraying Ventus and Roxas, who he's voiced in previous games.

In the wake of the legal disputes brought forward by Courtney Love over Kurt Cobain's use in "Guitar Hero 5" and No Doubt over their appearance in "Band Hero," no one should be be surprised that playable celebrities aren't being planned for the next Guitar Hero game. Nevertheless, that's what a new report states with early details on the title.

Take-Two Interactive went on the record last year to say that they don't believe Grand Theft Auto needs to be "an annualized franchise." But while Rockstar Games could spin a new series out of "Red Dead Redemption" this month, one industry analyst believes a new GTA for 2011 will be necessary, and a first look at the unannounced game could come as soon as E3 in June.

The title "Red Dead Redemption" has a double meaning. On the one hand, the game's protagonist John Marston is a recovering outlaw, a man who only wants to live the rest of his days peacefully on the Great Plains with his wife and son. The title can also be taken as a reference to "Red Dead Revolver," a title that Rockstar Games obtained half-finished from Capcom and released in 2004 on Xbox and PlayStation 2, to an underwhelming response. "Redemption" is a sequel in name only; there are certainly flaws, but this is a full-blown, open-world Rockstar production to the pretender that was "Revolver."

Remedy Entertainment hasn't released a game in seven years. Their last title was "Max Payne 2" back in 2003, and since then they've been focused on just one project: "Alan Wake." And it's a doozie. Fans of unique, original and, most important, fun video games owe it to themselves to give this remarkable third-person shooter a shot.

BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk said that "Mass Effect 2" was designed to be the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Mass Effect trilogy, and that assessment sounds like it rang true for at least one high-profile game developer. Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski, who recently stormed late-night television to unveil "Gears of War 3," believes BioWare's series will have a similar impact as George Lucas' quintessential blockbuster.

Those anonymously-sourced rumors about dedicated servers coming to "Call of Duty: Black Ops" may have been on target after all. Word from the top at the game's studio indicates that unlike Infinity Ward's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," which opted for a new serverless matchmaking system on PC, "Black Ops" will stick with an online multiplayer tradition.
