Modern Warfare 2 Resurgence Pack

On June 3, five more maps will be added to the "Modern Warfare 2" rotation on Xbox Live, presuming you're willing to pay $15 for the forthcoming Resurgence Pack. Activision released screenshots showing off the five new maps (two of which are slightly spiffier versions of 'Modern Warfare 1' maps). At the top of this post you can see "Funhaus," which is the wackiest of the bunch. After the jump, the remaining four.

NBA Jam

The voice of Tim Kitzrow is about as synonymous with "NBA Jam" as pushing and dunking, and anyone who ever heard "He's heating up!" called out in an arcade knows that EA Sports made the right decision by bringing him back as an announcer for the franchise's Wii-exclusive relaunch. Equally well-founded is their new contest that wants you to propose suggestions for Kitzow's catchphrase arsenal in the game.

Call of Duty Future Warfare

The Call of Duty series has already been visited by the ghosts of warfare past and present, so it only stands to reason that Activision might consider hitting the fast forward button for an upcoming title. A smattering of domain names recently registered by Activision indicate that such plans could be in motion, and with a new mystery title in development for 2011 at Sledgehammer Gamers, "Call of Duty: Future Warfare" and "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" just became game-name candidates.

Machinarium Header

Once upon a time a dude with a PC rig laughed at a Cupertino enthusiast. His sleek and beautiful Apple iMac could do a lot of things quickly; but none of that power amounted to a hill of beans when it came to games. Simple fact was that publishers didn't have a powerhouse digital delivery pipeline... Until now, that is.

Valve put on a big show Wednesday afternoon with the launch of its Steam platform for the Macintosh, revealing a staggering 63 games that Mac owners could buy on the first day of its release. That's a lot stuff to sift through. No worries, though. I did all the hard work and plucked out ten games that you simply must have among the impressive list of launch titles.

Bulletstorm

The "Bulletstorm" trailer which premiered yesterday demonstrated the frantic action the developers are trying to capture. Based solely on the trailer it doesn't really look like a thought-provoking, story-based think piece, but the developers at People Can Fly were dead set on making sure the story got ample attention. To that end, they brought in Rick Remender, known for his brilliantly over-the-top "Fear Agent" comic series, as lead writer.

Bayonetta

Hyper-sexualized fan fiction and artwork are nothing new to video games or entertainment in general. You can spend five extremely NSFW minutes over on a the 4chan boards any day of the week to understand that simple truth. In the scheme of things, the characters and costumes in "Bayonetta" may have been a relatively slow pitch to the "artists" who generate such imagery though. That said, one of the game's designers, Hideki Kamiya, has not been amused by the fan-manufactured content — or doujinshi — that he's encountered. He even went as far as to question the love behind these homages.

Final Fantasy XIII

Some creators distinguish between RPG's and action games more than others, and BioWare seems to be keenly aware of what they're doing as "Star Wars: The Old Republic" takes shape. "Final Fantasy XIII," meanwhile, provoked reactions from a number of RPG traditionalists with its decidedly more linear structure. At least one writer working on "The Old Republic" believes Square Enix went too far and left the RPG genre entirely.

Project Natal

It's always nice to see major networks giving attention to our quaint, little multi-billion dollar industry. Case in point, MTV Networks will be airing Microsoft's two press conferences during E3 this year.

The first is the premiere of Project Natal, which will be viewable in its entirety on MTV on June 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET, with a repeat airing on Nick at Nite, mtvU, MTV Hits and Logo, at 9 p.m. ET that evening. The premiere will include a mysterious performance by Cirque du Soleil, as well as the first look at new games and features for Project Natal.

The second is the Microsoft Media Briefing, which will air live on Spike TV on Monday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The content of the briefing is currently unknown, but expect the focus to be on new non-Project Natal-related games and upgrades to the 360 dashboard. More "Gears of War 3" footage seems like a solid bet.

In addition, both events will be viewable live, as they happen, on GameTrailers.com. I think video games have finally made it! Oh, "Modern Warfare 2" was the biggest entertainment release of 2009? Nevermind.
