Since Sony launched the PSPgo last year, the system has hit a few bumps trying to gain traction in the market. Sony has blamed piracy for PSP platform stagnation broadly, but it looks like they've decided to leverage legal free games to try to attract more go buyers.
"Gran Turismo," "LittleBigPlanet," "MotorStorm Arctic Edge," "Wipeout Pure" and "Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice," are all being offered to newly registered PSPgo's, according to a Sony representative speaking to GamesIndustry.biz. The offerings also include "FIFA 2010 World Cup," "Need for Speed Shift," "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars," "Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines" and one third-party title.
I'm not totally clear from this report as to whether or not all ten are available together or if you have to select from the batch. "Gran Turismo" was available early on to the system's buyers, but this extended catalog of offerings has an impressive lineup.
Sony has said that they're committed to the UMD format, and PSP 2 rumors have been circling around recently for E3. The PSPgo finds itself in a strange place between those two facts, but free games surely can't hurt consumer interest.
