'LittleBigPlanet 2' Trailer And Screens Mean It's Official

Posted 5/10/10 3:00 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PS3

LittleBigPlanet 2

A musician named Ochre and a Sony brand manager must have known what they were talking about when they prematurely mentioned "LittleBigPlanet 2" because Media Molecule has let a trailer and some some screenshots loose on the Internet.

"Today, we are officially announcing that our cloth friend and all of his fellow Sack-people will be back for a completely new adventure in 'LittleBigPlanet 2,' which will be released later this year for PS3!" SCEA PR manager Eric Levin wrote on the official PlayStation Blog. A trailer accompanied the post, while LittleBigLand.com got their hands on some hi-res screens.

The trailer touts "2 million" levels that have been created since "LBP" first launched and makes predictable claims that the best is yet to come in the new sequel. It also sports some clips from throwback homages to classic games like "Space Invaders," "Bust-A-Move" and "Breakout." The big pitch seems to be that you'll be able to engineer "whole games" instead of just levels.

If "LBP2" exploring new sub-platforms doesn't get you jazzed enough, the accompanying background music provided by Passion Pit and their song "Sleepyhead" should do the trick. 2010 just got a bit more exciting.

What do you make of the new trailer for "LBP2"? Is the sequel going on your buy list for the year? Share your reactions in the comment section below.
