'Red Dead Redemption' Getting Free Co-Op DLC In June

Posted 5/5/10 4:58 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PS3, Xbox 360

Red Dead Redemption

In addition to an easy mode, Rockstar's "Red Dead Redemption" will be getting some posse-gathering co-op missions. The "Outlaws to the End" multiplayer mission pack will offer six such scenarios for free in June, complete with new XP rewards, Achievements and Trophies for you hang your Stetson on.

"Multiplayer in 'Red Dead Redemption' offers players a whole new way to encounter the massive open world we've created, but we felt the experience would not be complete without co-op game play," Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser said in a press release. "With these missions, we wanted to create new ways for players to share in the experience of engaging with this amazing landscape."

The announcement lists three of the six missions — "Walton's Gold," "The River" and "Ammunition" — which will take you and your fellow gunslingers through a mining camp, down a river (in case you couldn't guess) and up against the Mexican Army in the town of Tesoro Azul. Xbox 360 owners and PlayStation 3 users should receive the DLC simultaneously, too, so don't go worrying yourself about console discrimination this time around.

Co-op should be a good time with this title, so it's nice to see Rockstar leaving the price tag off. It's always less awkward when cash doesn't have to come between you and your friends enjoying each other's cherished gaming company.

Do you plan on downloading Rockstar's free "RDR" DLC in June? Was making the package free a good call? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
