Treyarch may see the situation of their fellow Call of Duty game-makers at Infinity Ward as "unfortunate" right now, but their own role in creating games for the franchise remains a huge part of Activision's plans for the future. In fact, they're willing to say out loud what everyone else probably assumed by this point, which is that Call of Duty is entirely what they exist to produce.

The "Kane and Lynch" movie may have Bruce Willis locked down to play Kane and Jamie Foxx for Lynch, butthe film may be looking for a director to replace "Hancock" stunt coordinator Simon Crane, who has reportedly parted ways with the project. Meanwhile, Wayne Kramer, who most recently directed the Harrison Ford film "Crossing Over," may be in line to take over.
Crane just wasn't working out, according to an anonymous source at Millenium Films, who spoke to Latino Review. "Law Abiding Citizen" director F. Gary Gray may have also been under consideration, but apparently passed on the film. Willis, Foxx and a script by Kyle Ward are still a part of the production, though.
Even if this rumor holds water, it's important to remember that this new development is still just in the friendly talking stage. Millenium does have a respectable number of pieces in place to get this film made, but until they have a director nailed down, anything is possible.
In the meantime, "Kane and Lynch 2" is in active production and should be out soon, so stay alert for more details on that front as E3 inches ever closer.
Who would you like to see director the "Kane and Lynch" movie? Do you think Willis and Foxx are right for their parts? Share your reactions in the comment section below.

"Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock," the Neversoft game that's got outed on Amazon.com this week, will be ported to the Wii courtesy of Vicarious Visions. The Gene Simmons-narrated adventure game will be keeping Nintendo DS collaboration around for three different "Roadie" modes, but the the enriched story that the franchise will be introducing sounds like someone behind the scenes was inspired by "Brutal Legend."

The question of when a game like "Castlevania: Harmony of Despair" truly transcends being a rumor and becomes a real game is one that philosophers can debate long into the future, but Australia's ratings board has posted a listing for the title and marked it for an Xbox release, so it may be fair to assume the multiplayer project does exist.

I'll go into detail on the new level Activision showed off at a recent press event, but I thought it might be a good idea to skip to the most surprising aspect first: "Call of Duty: Black Ops" has a shotgun that shoots fire. Seriously. It's a normal shotgun loaded with Dragon's Breath slugs, and yes, they exist in real life!

There's hot anticipation for the next major installment of the "Pokemon" franchise, but that passion will have to wait until 2011...at least in North America. Nintendo announced today that "Pokemon Black" and "White" will hit North American stores in Spring 2011.
In addition to the starting Pokemon in "Black" and "White," Nintendo also revealed the legendary Pokemon exclusive to each release. "Pokemon Black" will feature Reshiram, while "Pokemon White" will score Zekrom. Both names are trademarked, so don't go stealin' 'em! And you better get that name changed, dude on Facebook!

These days, every game almost has to have co-op. It's a required, back-of-the-box bullet point that seems to be popping up more often than ever, and huge games like "Splinter Cell Conviction" are even ditching most traditional adversarial modes in favor of a strictly co-op multiplayer experience. "FEAR 3" (not "F3AR 3," despite what the box says) is putting a major focus on co-op, allowing players to complete the entire campaign with a buddy.
The developers are doing more than just adding a second Master Chief...or in this case, Point Man. Playing in co-op allows one player to control Point Man (the hero of the original "FEAR"), while the other plays as his quasi-undead brother, Paxton Fettel.

Although Microsoft has been hush-hush about their E3 line-up of Project Natal games, 3rd party publishers are apparently less hesitant to share their plans for the motion-sensing technology. In discussing plans for E3, a Crave Games representative mentioned that the company will be releasing a version of "Brunswick Pro Bowling" which will support Natal, allowing players to roll strikes without the impediment of a controller.

"Beyond Good and Evil 2" didn't come out in 2009, and now any release date at all, be it in 2011 or 2012, may be in jeopardy. The news comes with a report out of France that creator Michael Ancel has left Ubisoft, possibly leading to the sequel's outright cancellation.
Ancel quit Ubsioft along with one other developer to start his own studio, according to a story on WootGaming.com, as recapped by CVG.

2010 has been an innovative year for DRM strategies, with Ubisoft trying to secure "Assassin's Creed 2" and EA demanding continued Internet access to play "Commmand and Conquer 4." Blizzard has an entirely different perspective on the issue of pirated game policing, however. In fact, they just plain don't believe that funneling research and development dollars into DRM is worth the expense.
