Drew Brees

Just two weeks after announcing cover model Tim Tebow for "NCAA Football 11," EA Sports has officially bestowed the same honor for "Madden 11" on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Brees beat out Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne in fan voting to nab the accolade. Lucky for him, too, because he already has a a Super Bowl ring and Super Bowl MVP distinction behind him, so there's very little chance that the much-feared curse associated with Madden covers can do to him.

EA Sports was in town yesterday and they were showing off the latest build of a game you may be looking forward to. They're not allowing direct feed just yet, but that doesn't mean I can't get you 2 minutes of "NBA Jam" gameplay footage with my handy FlipCam.

The footage shows off the true-to-franchise aesthetic they're going for. It's basically the "NBA Jam" you remember, but at a slightly higher resolution. Boom-shaka-laka indeed!

Monster Hunter Tri

The Eyjafjallajokull volcano already spoiled a few scheduled Konami releases in Australia. Now, the giant ash cloud it set afloat above the skies of Northern Europe has canceled some important plans for other game-makers as well. "Bulletstorm," which premiered on the cover of Game Informer back during the heat of April's Jimmy Fallon "Gears of War 3" speculation, was supposed to get a wider introduction for the media. The formal unveiling for the title has been temporarily iced, though, thanks to Eyjafjallajokull, while two "Monster Hunter Tri" developers have been forced to miss an in-store appearance in the U.K. in connection with the game's release.

T.Hawk Character Shot

T. Hawk is one of the two new members of "Super Street Fighter 4" courtesy of the "Super Street" fighter series. You'll find him unchanged, for the most part -- a fact that most fans of the dash-in, grapple out character won't take issue with.

Halo Reach

The "Halo: Reach" beta will be open in a little over a week, and Bungie hopes to have a big party on their hands. In fact, they're expecting the game's various modes to attract record numbers, and 3 million sounds like the mark they want to hit.

"My expectation is it could be upwards of 3 million people," Bungie community director Brian Jarrard told The Seattle Times. "I think that’s a fairly conservative estimate. Certainly there will never be a console beta of this magnitude."

WarCraft Ban Hammer

Even as Battle.net expands to Macs and gets ready for the full launch of "StarCraft 2," moderators are keeping watchful eyes on players in older titles like "Warcraft 3" and "Diablo 2." In fact, 320,000 of those players just lost a lot of privileges thanks to a Battle.net crackdown on abuses and hacks.

"We've recently banned over 320,000 'Warcraft III' and 'Diablo II' accounts that were found to be violating the Battle.net Terms of Use," a representative posted on the Battle.net forums. "If this is a first offense, the CD key associated with the banned account will be suspended for 30 days, while repeat offenders will see their keys banned permanently. All account ban decisions are final."

Buck Rogers

Paul W.S. Anderson is probably best known as the director of the first "Resident Evil" movie. After skipping two follow-ups, he's returning to the franchise in "Resident Evil: Afterlife." His love of games is clear. Apart from his experience with Capcom's survivor horror series, as he's reportedly in the early stages of films based on "Castlevania" and "Driver." His interest in making movies based on game franchises goes the other way, as well. Speaking with MTV News in preparation for this week's 3D Gaming Summit, Anderson mentioned that he's interested in developing new games and movies right alongside each other.

Sam&Max iPad Shot

Before the PSN and PC releases of "Sam & Max: The Penal Zone," the inaugural episode of the third season of the series appeared on the iPad. It's the first time Telltale Games has opted to debut a series on a handheld, much less one on the first day it was available for consumer use.

That early jump cost Telltale. Most developers, including most prolific App Store entrepreneurs, didn't have access to early iPad units. They were developing their launch games in the dark with computer-based developer's kits. As Dan Connors, the CEO of Telltale, recalls, creating "Sam & Max" during this period was tough.

Project Natal

Few people who haven't had a private demo of Microsoft's Project Natal like James Gunn had know what all of its bits and pieces look like. An Italian website called Multiplayer.it (no relation to our blog over here in the States) may know a little more, though, now, thanks to someone who leaked purported shots of the Natal development kit. The instructions that are shown in the pictures show off at least as much info as the peripheral components do, including a previously unmentioned independent power source and an automatic tilting mechanism.

Administrative Professionals Day 2010

When one thinks of Administrative Professionals Day, one doesn't immediately think of video games. But when you get right down to it, there's usually someone in the background, facilitating, organizing, ensuring that things go exactly to plan. They may not be the hero, but without their admin skills, many of the games we know and love could never have happened. So let's honor these unsung heroes for their grace under pressure and crazy WPM rate.
