New title development activity on the "Oddworld" front may be about as silent as the series' protagonist Abe right now, but anyone who really wants a Mudokon fix should be able to relive some past adventures on Steam by the end of the year. Previously, there had been rumblings that a new game might be in the works, but if there is, the series' creator Lorne Lanning says it's not something that's going to show up in the near future.
"There's a lot of things on the shelf right now," the Lanning told G4. "We had a few on the fire, and they're still on the shelf...there's a lot of shakeup going on [in the gaming industry] and in that turmoil, we didn't really want to put the Oddworld brand out there in the middle of it, so we're working on some other things that we'll be announcing shortly."
In the meantime, a sort of anthology called "The Oddbox" should be coming to Steam in 2010, according to Lanning. That will most likely include the four original Oddworld titles, "Abe's Oddysee," "Abe's Exoddus," "Munch's Oddysee" and "Stranger's Wrath."
He did say his team wants to "aggressively experiment" at this point, though. I'd love to see what they could do with some Project Natal or PlayStation Move implementations down the road.
