'Super Mario Galaxy 2' Brings Luigi Back For Another Go

Posted 4/23/10 10:30 am EST by Brian Warmoth in News, Wii

Luigi Super Mario Galaxy 2

No one ever said that Luigi would stay away from "Super Mario Galaxy 2." In all of the hubbub about level details and enhanced co-op play, though, his brother has been the one in the spotlight. If you were among those fearing that the green Mario brother might have slipped out the back door following the first "Mario Galaxy," rest easy, because Nintendo has presented evidence that he does in fact have a role.

Luigi showed up in a Japanese-scripted "Mario Galaxy 2" scene over on Nintendo.co.jp. You'll have to click on the lower right-hand box there to bring him up, but he appears to be instructing Mario on how to find a star. Games Radar, whose Japanese knowledge is vastly superior to my own, also says that the site mentions Luigi being more slippery to play with than Mario, so that probably means he's going to be unlockable and/or playable.

Luigi and Yoshi have both been noted now. Wario may be a holdout, unless there's a screenshot somewhere I haven't seen yet. In the march toward the game's release on May 23, however, maybe we'll get some more surprises.

Are you glad to see Luigi may be playable in "Super Mario Galaxy 2"? Who else would you like to control? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
