Gamers are hard at work beta-testing "StarCraft 2" right now, but the game's developers a have much more pressing assignment to get their sequel out on time this summer for Blizzard. The good news is that they seem to be on track — at least that's the word from inside. The better news is that they're looking ahead to the first expansion pack as well.
"We're still targeting a mid-year release. We're doing everything we can," "SC2" lead producer Chris Sigaty told Shacknews. "I was here all weekend along with a bunch of other people. We're trying to get done as soon as possible."
In other words, if you were already planning on using some vacation days this summer to play "SC2" when it's out, don't worry about using them for something else. Blizzard sounds like they're working around the clock to get this game out. As for "SC2" plans post-launch, they're thinking about those too.
"We're estimating about 18 months from release of Wings of Liberty to when the next one comes out," Sigaty said. "That's purely speculative, honestly."
A year and a half sounds about right though. Make sure to update your calendars for late 2011 through early 2012.
