Some faithful first-day Xbox purchasers encountered an unpleasant problem in the second level of "Splinter Cell: Conviction," but Ubisoft reportedly has an answer already worked out. Ubi responded on their forums with a temporary solution to an outbreak of in-game freezes that were occurring (Russ ran into the problem too), but a more permanent, downloadable fix has now been announced.
"The issue has been resolved, you should now be able to play without further problems," an Ubisoft representative told Kotaku. "You can download the update now and be able to play the game without it freezing or needing to be unplugged from Xbox Live."
If you didn't download an update over Xbox Live earlier this morning, you may have nothing to worry about, as the lock-up seems to be associated with that transaction. Before the most recent fix, Ubisoft recommended clearing the 360's system cache through the following steps:
1. Load to the Xbox 360 dashboard
2. Choose "System Settings"
3. Choose "Memory"
4. Highlight your hard drive
5. Press "y" for device options
6. from here just choose to clear system cache
If neither that process nor the new update solve your freezing issues, you should definitely check in for more updates on the Ubisoft boards. After all, Sam Fisher isn't much good to you while he's standing still.
