If Capcom's decision to forgo waves of DLC for "Street Fighter 4" and move right on ahead to an expanded edition of the game has you hesitant to pull out your wallet again for "Super Street Fighter 4," don't worry that it's going to happen again. The game's producer Yoshinori Ono definitively put fears of a "Super Street Fighter 4 Alpha" or "Super Street Fighter 4 2010" to rest with a commitment to ending the 4 series while he's ahead.
"I have no intention of carrying on 'Street Fighter 4' into 'Hyper Street Fighter 4' or 'Ultra Street Fighter 4,' because I'm aware of the mistakes Capcom has made in the past," Ono told OXM. "So whether it would be a different IP or another Street Fighter, we'd like to keep options open. But in terms of 'Street Fighter 4,' this is definitive... 'Super Street Fighter 4' should be the distinctive end."
He didn't rule out DLC, however, and talked about hypothetical scenarios down the road.
"Obviously there can be updates via DLC so perhaps in 2011," he explained, "we could upload a patch for 'Super Street Fighter 4' 2011 edition that would have tuning and balancing. But as a packaged product, I think this is the last."
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the 2011 comment does not involve Ken with cybernetic implants, but that doesn't mean that I don't hope it does.
Do you think Capcom's making the right decision to end its "SF4" titles with "SSF4"? What kind of DLC would you like to see them release? Share your proposals in the comment section below.
