April Fool's Day Brings 'King's Quest' 'StarCraft' Spin-Off And 'Blackthorne' Sequel To Blizzard

Posted 4/1/10 3:30 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PC

Queen's Quest

April Fool's Day can be a game-changer for companies. Take Blizzard, for instance, who finally got around to announcing both "Queen's Quest" and "Blackthorne 2: Thorne Harder" today in honor of the holiday. Activision may have no plans for a "King's Quest" spin-off right now, but just for today, Blizzard does. Their website also says they'll be rolling out a Battle.net matchmaking website, a Deckard Cain X-Treme Gamer Blanket and "Diablo 3" body pillows.

"Using a revolutionary new 'natural language interface,' 'Queen's Quest' will challenge you like no game has ever before," the game description on Blizzard.com explains. "Our game designers spent years in order to harness the force of words with a simple yet powerful interface to immerse you in the 'StarCraft' universe like you've never been before."

"Blackthorne 2," meanwhile, promises sharks, surfboards, a "epic hard rock soundtrack" and "Twitter and Facebook integration to automatically post updates for every single enemy you kill." Blizzard gets five stars from me for satirical game description writing at its best.

If I had to buy one item out of Blizzard's fantasy catalog, however, it would without a doubt be Deckard Cain's GPS Voice Pack, which in an ideal world would come with a "Deckard Cain is my co-pilot T-shirt."

Do you see anything on Blizzard's April Fool's Day list that you would like to see in the real world? What's your favorite AFD joke you've seen so far today? Sound off in the comment section below.
