Making good on their word to stick with Tiger Woods, EA Sports announced "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11" this week, and though their press release boasts the phrases "Ryder Cup," "support Sony’s new PlayStation 3 Motion Controller" and "Wii MotionPlus," Project Natal didn't get a mention. Their silence doesn't necessarily mean that they left motion control support out of the 360 edition, but it does raise some questions. It also may raise the profile of Irish player Rory McIlroy who accompanies Woods on the cover.
"This is a huge honor for me to be the on the cover with Tiger Woods as I grew up idolizing Tiger,” McIlroy said a press release. "The Ryder Cup has always been my favorite sporting event and the tournament is being played at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales in 2010. Also, I’m hopeful to have an opportunity to represent the European team later in the year -- it's all very special."
As for Project Natal, it seems like there are three possibilities. First, EA many have gravitated toward the unnamed PS3 motion controller and decided not to develop for Natal. Second, maybe Natal plans are in the works and just not finalized or ready for headlines yet. The game has been dated for June 8th, and it's entirely possible that Sony was fine with a game coming out ahead of their device with code already built in, whereas Microsoft balked at a Natal title floating out ahead of their controls. In that case, I could see a scenario where an update for Natal became downloadable at a later point in time. The third and least likely scenario would be that EA simply left the device off of the release.
All of this is 100 percent speculative, but I'm open to other theories.
