The initial teaser trailer for "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" showed brief snaps of gameplay in between taunting text. That's no fun at all. Thankfully the internet will not be denied, and today an intrepid soul posted a solid minute and a half of the game actually running. You can watch that video below:

Yes, Sony's PS3 motion controller, which at one point was called "Gem," was officially introduced without a name at E3 in 2009. Sony has reportedly confirmed, however, that it will host a panel at GDC in San Francisco this March entitled "Introducing the PlayStation 3 motion controller." Without knowing what Sony plans on displaying, it's tough to tell whether or not the event will provide a name for the device or just another rare look at the colorful ball on the end of a black stick that will allow enhanced swordplay on the PS3.

When you buy "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" early next month, each new copy will include a "VIP" code which will allow you to access the game's downloadable content. I spoke with Patrick Bach, the senior producer on "Bad Company 2," to find out just what sort of DLC plans the developers had in mind. Here's what he had to say:
"We want people to insert the code they get when they buy the game to get access to [DLC content]. It's connected to your personal account, more or less, and what we want to do is give you something extra, added value, for that. In the future you will get more content, for free, if you have this VIP code."

Blizzard announced a host of changes to Battle.net that will affect "StarCraft 2" and other future releases, but they haven't gone on the record with much official info on the "StarCraft 2" beta test that was delayed into 2010 after a tentative rollout deadline expired last year. A purportedly legit FAQ showed up on the Internet yesterday, however, and it may or may not answer a few questions.

Capcom wasn't kidding last week when they said they would be open to a portable version of "Street Fighter 4." Surprisingly enough, their first handheld port of the game won't be on the PSP or DS, though. It'll be out in March for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Yesterday, as promised, PopCap dropped "Plants vs. Zombies" on the App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch. As I've mentioned, the original PC/Mac version was one of my favorite games of 2009, and a handheld version seemed like a perfect fit. And, based on the first hour of play, I'm prepared to confirm that this is the way "Plants vs. Zombies" should be experienced.

This week's iPhone round-up features two titles that will put you behind the wheel of a car and have you burning rubber and kicking up dust. In stark contrast, the third title in this post wants you to avoid torching (and dust, too) at all costs.
"GT Racing: Motor Academy" ($6.99)
A third-person iPhone racer sim with a budget, "GT Racing" has fancy automobile licenses and a campaign with traditional features. But the familiar bells and whistles don't count for squat: while the robust campaign offering gives you all the time trials, races, and qualifying rounds that you can handle, the game punches you in the gut with bad tilt steering, awkward on-screen controls, and dumb collision detection.
If it wasn't for the solid driving assists, I wouldn't have been able to conquer the first race, much less the rest I've played. This sim takes itself too seriously considering the platform, and could do with a serious pass or two of polish.

"Heavy Rain" will beat Sony's PS3 motion controller into stores by nearly a year, but the team behind the game at Quantic Dream was a little bit more optimistic when they first started work. In fact, Quantic Dream's co-CEO David Cage said the "Heavy Rain" code still contains leftovers from the early days when motion controls were part of the plan.

"Alan Wake" got some heavy inspiration from "Lost," and much like its muse, the game will be gravitating toward TV sets when it comes out as soon as this May. Though a PC edition may have been in the cards at one time, Microsoft has now shut down any such expectations in favor of focusing on their console.

So you can't really tell in the above shot, but those two placards are actually made of 1/4 inch thick plastic and are done up to be futuristic wanted posters of two of the heroes in "Final Fantasy XIII." They sorta look like those iPad-things that appear throughout "Avatar," except they aren't actually computers from the future. Bummer.
