'God Of War 3' Requires No Installation Space

Posted 2/23/10 1:48 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News, PS3

God of War 3

"God of War 3" got a lot of eyebrows hopping this week when Sony Santa Monica director of technology Tim Moss thanked "heavens for Dual Layer Blu-Rays," which allowed the game to take up 35GB. Russ wasn't the only one out there wondering how much hard drive space a game that large would claim. Thankfully Moss's colleague came to the rescue yesterday with assurance that "GoW3" requires little more than 5MB of of space for saved game files.

"'God of War 3' does NOT do a HD install," Sony Santa Monica director of technology Christer Ericson wrote on Twitter. "The 5MB listed on box back is for save game only."

In case you're pondering whether either of those job titles were typos, Moss clarified that issue as well on his own account, acknowledging that yes, he and Ericson share the same responsibilities. I know I was, anyway.

"Yep, partners in crime for the last 11 years," Moss explained.

So there you are. Wondrous Blu-ray technology triumphs again. Let's just hope the load times don't suffer too much as a result. Supposedly, this game will be be streaming as well and require no loading times. If Stig Asmussen said that, I'm sure it must be true, but I can't immediately find more context for his quote. My skept-o-dar demands that I see such miracles in action before I believe them, though if Sony has truly eliminated hard drive burdens and load times for "GoW3," they deserve some loud high fives.

Are you glad to hear that "GoW3" won't bog down your PS3's hard drive? How high are your expectations for the game right now? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
