Capcom wasn't kidding last week when they said they would be open to a portable version of "Street Fighter 4." Surprisingly enough, their first handheld port of the game won't be on the PSP or DS, though. It'll be out in March for the iPhone and iPod touch.
"Street Fighter 4" for the iPhone will include at least some of the character its console and PC counterparts, pulling from the original cast of fighters and the 4's newbies, according to IGN. The new game will reportedly include Bluetooth multiplayer functionality and a Dojo training mode that anyone transitioning from big screens will appreciate, since the game's control scheme will be scaled down to a virtual joystick and four attack buttons.
The screenshots that appeared with the announcement look pretty slick as stills. As someone who picked "Street Fighter 4" as his game of the year for 2009, however, I've got a pretty high bar for this game's graphics to reach in motion. Having played the fighter title "Blades of Fury" on the iPhone before, I know it's possible to do a functional control system, but for a "Street Fighter" game to work, it needs to set a new standard for responsive commands.
Do you think "Street Fighter 4" will work on the iPhone? Would you have rather seen it for the PSP or DS first? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
