New 'Assassin's Creed' With Multiplayer Mode Isn't iPhone Release

Posted 2/4/10 3:41 pm EST by Russ Frushtick in News, PS3, Xbox 360

Assassin's Creed 2 Multiplayer

Remember a few weeks back when Ubisoft announced that there was a new "Assassin's Creed" game coming in 2010 that would star Ezio and would feature multiplayer for the first time in the franchise's history? Well, there's been some confusion of late, as a new game for the iPhone has been making the rounds. It's, you guessed it, an "Assassin's Creed" game which features multiplayer and is set in Ezio's own Italy. So did Ubi pull a sneaky move and try to convince the world a major release was coming this year when it was really just an iPhone release? According to Ubisoft, that's not the case.

I reached out to an Ubi rep to see whether this multiplayer iPhone release was indeed the "Assassin's Creed" game referred to in the press conference. The response: "Nope."

Looks like Ezio's still getting another game in 2010 and it isn't just a mobile spin-off. Personally I'm crossing my fingers for a Gizmondo-exclusive release.
