Let me put this bluntly: Slamming X a bunch of times to do something mundane like open a door is not fun. It's never been fun. I'm not sure how or why developers came up with the notion that it'd be a good idea to make players sweat to accomplish seemingly simple tasks, but it's a horrible practice that should die as soon as possible.
That's not to say that there's no room for portraying "effort" in a game. There's a value in it, as it allows players to share a moment with their avatar, as both are physically exerting themselves at the same time. But there's a time and a place.

EA Sports' "NBA Jam" revival has already championed one classic sports franchise for 2010. Now it looks like Tecmo will follow suit and revisit their old SNES title "Tecmo Super Bowl," and the tricked-out update, "Tecmo Bowl Throwback," could launch as soon as this spring for the PSN and XLBA.

Two more iPhone games to watch this week, including one that has caused me to run down my battery twice in the last two days.
Sword & Poker - $0.99 (Sale)/Lite
This game is indeed the culprit for my evaporated battery life. "Sword & Poker" brilliantly combines the life-ruining addiction of "Puzzle Quest" with the universal popularity of Texas Hold 'Em. He game has you battling monsters by placing two cards on the edges board, attempting to create poker hands with nine community cards place in the center. Equipment, stat upgrades and even magic spells add a lot of variables to the mix, and the charming art style is the icing on the cake. The $0.99 is temporary, so grab this one while you can. Highly recommended.

I may have blogged too soon yesterday when I suggested that Platinum Games might talk to Ubisoft about partnering on a "MadWorld" sequel if Sega really wants out of the M-rated Wii game market. The French publisher's CEO Yves Guillemot cited "great Wii success during the holiday season" this week, but he cited the success in spite of unmet financial goals. Now it looks like Ubisoft will be joining Sega and maybe Capcom, depending on which day of the week it is, in de-prioritizing Wii releases.

The game publishers of the world had big plans for the fall of 2009. Then everyone realized that "New Super Mario Bros.," "Modern Warfare 2," and "Assassins Creed 2" were all coming out within a couple weeks of each other and they decided that, perhaps, it would be best to hold some of their games back until next year, giving these games more time in the development oven.
Many games that were originally scheduled for late 2009 were pushed into the first quarter of 2010. There are others, though, that remain a total mystery as to when they'll release. Here are five games that may or may not see the light of day in the next 12 months.

A "Gran Turismo 5" launch in Japan this March is now a no-go. Sony and Polyphony Digital didn't include an expected time-frame for the delay, but anyone hoping to get behind the wheel of a new Mercedes-Benz in a PS3 demo anytime soon should find some other plans.

"Mega Man 10" has a rich legacy of ridiculous and well designed bosses to satisfy, but thanks to an overseas reveal, Capcom's development team has my seal of approval. I don't want to spoil anything more for you if you're waiting to play the game, but all eight Robot Masters will be listed after you make the jump.

Today, in an earnings call, Ubisoft revealed that the next game in the "Assassin's Creed" series will feature an online multiplayer mode. This is a first in a series that has, until now, been a strictly solo experience.
If you haven't completed "Assassin's Creed 2," you may want to stop reading right here.

I finished "Bayonetta" last night. While that may not be that interesting, as I'm sure there are many people out there that have already completed Platinum Games latest oversexed opus, the fact that I finished it on easy is. After playing the entire game on normal, I dropped the difficulty down for the final boss. Because of that cop-out I came up 20 achievement points short of what I would have if I beat it on normal, and that's a big step for me.
You see, I'm a recovering achievement addict, and I'm a gamer living with this problem. Longtime readers may remember my exploits being well documented on this very blog, as well as just how much of an exhausting experience that was for me. This is my story since then.

Beyoncé Knowles may not have her own dance game on the market yet, but she's found a way to get in on the fashion business gaming market. The well-known diva who appeared in commercials for the DSi game ""Rhythm Heaven" has announced that she'll do the same and more for "Style Savvy" in a spot slated to premier on Nickelodeon.
