PS3 Motion Controller

Sony's new PS3 motion controller, whether it's called the "Gem," "Arc," "Wand" or something else entirely, has been officially delayed until well after its original Spring 2010 launch date. Sony had hoped to get their ice cream cone-like peripheral out ahead of Microsoft's Project Natal hardware, and they still may by a few weeks, but it looks like the two products will effectively be going head to head for the 2010 holiday season.

God of War 3

At a recent event in New York City, I had some time to speak with John Hight, the studio director of Sony Santa Monica. Yes, those are the "God of War" folks. The interview had a wide range of topics, but because people generally freak out about this sort of thing, the topic of game length came up. The length of "God of War 3," to be specific. Here's the transcript of my conversation with John:

World of Warcraft

Don't expect Sam Raimi to immediately jump onto his "Warcraft" film just because he pulled out of "Spider-Man 4." Robert Rodat's script for the big-screen adaptation may not be ready for him yet, and even if it were, Raimi may have other priorities in mind.

Megadeth

Once Metallica got their own Guitar Hero game, we all knew it could only be a matter of time before their fellow metal mavens Megadeth came forth with a response. Sadly, Megadeth has not yet secured their own game. However, frontman Dave Mustaine claims something "over-the-moon" may be in the works with Activision and Neversoft.

Serious Sam HD

In 2001, Croteam did an admirable job of plopping the twitch mechanics of "DOOM" into a not-so-serious shooter called "Serious Sam: The First Encounter." Its mind numbing-hypersonic pace, frenetic enemies, and the flippant protagonist won over critics and made a name for the studio. In 2010, Croteam hopes to reintroduce us all to the game, this time with crisper visuals and co-op in the XBLA version of "Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter."

Bungie Haiti T-shirt

The devastation in Haiti following last week's earthquake probably hasn't escaped you, and if you've got a few dollars in your bank account, you may have been doing some head-scratching in the past few days trying to figure out how you can help. Donating directly to or volunteering for Red Cross efforts is always an option, but if you've been considering a T-shirt or iPhone game purchase, Bungie and AppRelief.com have opened up some donation channels of their own that you may find to be of interest. Bungie even designed a shirt just for the occasion.

After many, many rumors claiming that we'd be seeing Apple's take on the Tablet PC at the end of the month, Apple has gone ahead and scheduled a press conference at the end of the month. The subject of the press conference is not specified (as is their way), but you can be sure it'll be exploding the internet next Wednesday as people try to live-cast every second of it.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

In an effort to make "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" the most widely-ported "GTA" game since "Grand Theft Auto 2," Rockstar has released the title on iPhone (following up the 2009 releases of the Nintendo DS and PSP versions). The iPhone version of "Chinatown Wars" is selling for $9.99 and is currently the best-selling App in the store.

Dark Void

If there's one lesson that can be learned from "Dark Void" it's never to fly through the Bermuda Triangle on a stormy night; bad things happen. Capcom's latest release starts there an ends up in an entirely different universe. "Dark Void" mixes up the action shooter genre by adding jet packs, a famous scientist, and setting it in an ominous world called "The Void." It's a different take on third-person shooters, and an introduction to a new I.P. that might turn into a franchise that we could see more from in the future.
