"2010 FIFA World Cup" comes as no surprise to anyone, but EA Sports has now made the game official and released a screenshot to accompany a few early details. Their marketing machine can now begin figuring out how to draft behind their "FIFA 10" sales numbers while everyone else waits for some action shots and further info.
"One cool feature will be the first-ever full and authentic '2010 FIFA World Cup' online tournament," the announcement revealed on EA Sports' FIFA Facebook page. "Compete online instantly -- day or night -- as your favourite country against other gamers around the world in the group stage through the knockout rounds to the World Cup Final and the chance to be crowned champion. The game features all 199 nations that took part in qualification."
Also let me know if you can make heads or tales of the tags below the picture there, because the locations and names listed on the Facebook post don't seem to correspond to anything visually. Maybe I'm overlooking something.
A tweet predicting the EA's Facebook post appeared earlier, but was later taken down, according to El33t Online, which seems a bid odd, but marketing departments do have very specific ways they like to do things and in various planned sequences, so make of that what you will.
On a final note, I'm already putting this game at the top of my list for best game of 2010 to take place in South Africa. Any other contenders out there?
