EA Believes 'Bad Company 2' Can Take On 'Modern Warfare 2'

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

EA may need some jewelry on their heads before they're satisfied with the performance of their FPS releases in 2010. A few weeks ago, their CEO John Riccitiello said he wanted to take the "leadership position in FPS" away from the "Call of Duty" series. Now, one of his colleagues is calling for a crown to accompany "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" when it comes out this year.

"In March we will launch 'Battlefield: Bad Company 2,' which is our first strong attack on 'Call Of Duty,'" EA Europe senior VP Jens Uwe told MCV Magazine. "The shooter space is one we don't want to give up. It's an important genre and we were the number one. So we are certainly working on how we can get that crown back and 'Battlefield: Bad Company 2' is an important product in that context."

Riccitiello previously pointed to the "Battlefield" and "Medal of Honor" franchises as candidates to oust "MW2" from its current throne.

"If any of our studios can take on 'Modern Warfare,' then it's DICE," UWE said.

Uwe's comments are clearly echoes of Riccitiello's statements, but EA is clearly staying on message. Reviving the "Battlefield" brand and positioning their games to achieve "MW2" numbers may be a longterm goal that takes them past March, though stranger success stories have happened.

Do you think "Bad Company 2" will be able to outperform "MW2"? Do Activision and Infinity Ward have anything to worry about? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
