Pokemon

I know what you're thinking. "Pokémon HeartGold" and "Pokémon SoulSilver" haven't even gone on sale in the U.S. yet. Well, Japan has had them since September and it's time for Nintendo to start looking ahead to an all-new Pokémon title. "Diamond" and "Pearl" were the last entirely new releases for the DS, and though Nintendo hasn't said what their follow-up will be called, they've made its existence known, and it may be destined for Japanese stores sometime in 2010.

Episodes from Liberty City

Xbox 360 owners will no longer have exclusive access to "Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City" this spring. Both "The Ballad of Big Gay Tony" and "The Lost and the Damned" will be set loose on the PlayStation 3 and PC on March 30th via the PSN, Windows Live and a Blu-ray disc package. The announcement comes almost a year after "Lost and the Damned" first appeared for the 360, but Rockstar assured PS3 and PC owners that they appreciate the wait they've endured.

Bloodlines: Alexa Holmes Chronicles

In about 28 days or so, I'll be playing these three iPhone gaming round-up Apps via an iPad. I wonder if its battery will actually last longer than my iPhone, which happened to die twice while I was checking these out. Ah, a boy can dream.

'Bloodlines: The Alexa Holmes Chronicles' ($2.99) - Pictured Above

There's something compelling about "Bloodlines: The Alexa Holmes Chronicles." Perhaps it's the dreary presentation, a take on graphic novel style, bolstered by a soundtrack that matches the art's dreary tone. But perhaps it's just the novelty of its "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego"- style trivia. Either way, "Bloodlines: The Alexa Homes Chronicles" is not a game you need in your App catalogue, regardless of how cool the idea of playing as a global gumshoe in search of the vampire responsible for the death of Sherlock Holmes sounds. The trivia isn't hard, and the game has a severe lack in the undead a capella department.

iPad

Nintendo's top man claims little interest at the moment in both the iPad and 3-D viewable gaming technology in the spirit of James Cameron's "Avatar." In addition to shooting down speculation that Nintendo is exploring a motion sensor for their next portable system and brushing off the importance of 3-D technology to the game industry, he also claimed to be remarkably indifferent to Steve Job's presentation on Wednesday where Apple revealed their new tablet machine.

Red Dead Redemption

In my last look at "Red Dead Redemption," the Wild West-themed open world game from the creators of "Grand Theft Auto," I made some comparisons to "GTA." Despite the setting, both titles clearly feature a lot of the same mechanics (stealing cars vs. stealing horses, shooting guns vs. shooting older guns, getting in trouble with the cops vs. getting in trouble with the law). This week I got to delve a little deeper, spending some hands-on time with a few of the missions. While there weren't too many surprises, it did give me a sense as to how the game actually plays and, surprise, it plays a lot like "GTA," with a smidge of "Zelda" and a dash of "Oregon Trail" thrown in for good measure.

Return to Ostagar

UPDATE: No need to wait until next week, as it looks like the DLC pack is live now! Woo.

Original Story: The "Dragon Age: Origins -- Awakening" expansion pack won't be showing up until March 16 at the earliest, but the good word for dedicated players today is that the game's released (and later unreleased) "Return to Ostagar" DLC may be returning for good as soon as next week.

Death By Cube

With a neat visual style and a really awesome name, does "Death by Cube" deserve your 800 Microsoft Banana Bucks? Surely, they've got this whole "top-down, twin-stick shooter" thing down pat by now.

The Basics

"Death by Cube" is a "shmup" with a spit of quirk. You'll play as an amnesiac robot named LEO as he searches for memories and attempts to rescue a mechanical damsel named SELSIE through layers and layers of brutal challenges.

With a touch of "Geometry Wars," Premium Agency's "Death by Cube" is a twist on the familiar. It separates from the twin-stick mold with its "Super Mario World" level select component, and attempts to keep things with a steady rotation of four basic shoot-'em-up challenges: "survive," "destroy all enemies," "protect the base," and "attack the base." But "Death by Cube" doesn't feel fresh, and is an example of a game that is too hard, perhaps even too ambitious, for its own good.

Final Fantasy XIII

"Final Fantasy XIII" director Motomu Toriyama hinted at the possibility of DLC for his newly finished game last year, and his "perhaps" now looks like it has turned into a "will arrive" -- though that arrival will happen in Japan before North America.

Playstation UI Motion Controller

While Ubisoft readies "around ten" games for Microsoft's Project Natal, it looks like the same number of games in total will be ready for Sony's PS3 motion controller by the end of 2010. The new hardware, possibly known as the "Arc" or"Gem," is scheduled to be out this fall, in time to compete with Natal's holiday season arrival, and Sony clearly wants to have a few games ready to go.

God of War 3

Sony has locked down the official release date for "God of War 3." Kratos will be reaching the summit of Mount Olympus (again) on March 16th. That's the North American release date, so other regions may have to wait a bit longer to rip the heads off demigods.
