'EGM

UPDATE: Demian Linn dropped us a note to clarify that he and Bitmob.com co-founder Dan Hsu will not be overseeing all of EGM's news editorial -- just news production for EGM's digital properties -- and both they and the site's writers working with EGM will remain with Bitmob.com while they produce content for the relaunched publication.

Original Story: Back in August, former video games newsstand face Electronic Gaming Monthly announced that December 1 would mark it's return to print, but with December nearly halfway over and 2010 almost here, the revelation that their relaunch has been move up to March 2010 shouldn't come as much of a shocker.

It's partially corporate synergy, but it's more because I find them super entertaining to watch. During the VGAs this year, we spent some time with Snooki and J-Woww of "Jersey Shore" fame and asked them about their favorite video games (natch). J-Woww seemed initially flummoxed, but rallied with her love of "Mario Kart" on some Nintendo system when she was like a kid.

Snooki, as always, stole the show, proudly proclaiming her skills in "Rock Band."

"I used to play the drums so I'm sick on it. Expert status!"

Expert status, indeed.

'Dark Void Zero

Capcom seems to really like the package they put together for "Mega Man 9" and "Mega Man 10," going as far as to design retro box art for their digitally released 8-bit sidescrollers. They've also gone as far as to make an 8-bit DSiware spin-off title based on their upcoming game "Dark Void." "Dark Void Zero" will feature an elaborately concocted fictional history about how it helped inspire "Dark Void," as well as a punchy soundtrack composed by Bear McCreary of "Battlestar Galactica" fame.

Assassin's Creed 2

In an interview with Kotaku, the creative director of "Assassin's Creed 2," Patrice Desilets, mentioned that the forthcoming DLC content was initially planned as part of the main game, but time constraints prevented it from being finished by launch. In his words, "I felt that, 'Okay, there were too many things to do and to finish.' So we said, 'Ok, let's take a portion of the game that was planned and we'll give it in DLC.' We'll remove some stress to the team while giving more to fans and people who like 'Assassin's Creed.'"

The reaction from the blogosphere to this one quote was somewhat vitriolic, with fans crying foul that content that was initially "planned" for the final game would be released after the fact, at a cost. These fans are dumb.

'Final Fantasy XIV' character editor

Even before "Final Fantasy XIII" reached stores in Japan last week, Square Enix began rolling out a few glimpses of their MMO follow-up, "Final Fantasy XIV." Some screenshots and gameplay video unveiled this year showed up what kind of world and monsters you can look forward to seeing, but the game's character editor will let you decide what you look like swinging your sword at those beasts -- and what color your miniskirt is. Oh, and you can adjust breast sizes.

Unreal Engine 3 on iPhone

Epic knows a thing or two about getting the most graphical power out of a device. After all, "Gear of War 2" remains one of the best looking games on the 360, and we're a year out from its release.

Seems like the developer is moving on to handheld pastures next, as they've already got Unreal Engine 3 up and running on an iPhone 3GS and a 3rd generation iPod Touch. Granted, the video below isn't exactly impressive, featuring a simple room with some columns and a gun, but if the folks at Epic open the floodgates by releasing an iPhone-happy version of the engine, I can only imagine what the throngs of iPhone developers will come up with. Assuming, of course, that they can afford the license.

Rock band, The Bravery, played the VGAs and are clearly gamers, professing their love of "Frogger" and "UFC 2009." They also have some interesting thoughts on the future of the music industry, including the concept that new artists are being discovered through video games, rather than radio. It's not a terribly new concept, but it's good to hear that another band is on board for the ride. You can check out the video clip up top.

Publishers take note: If you want to feature artistic customization in your game, EA is doing it the right way. They've just released a mask and armor customization tool online, so you can create your own design before the game even comes out. Apart from making for good game publicity, it's a heck of a lot better than having to struggle with analog sticks when trying to perfect your Hello Kitty race car.

The above image is of my design, which I guess you could use somehow. But I'm not saying how. I want to be the one and only mustachio'd bee screaming guy in the world, thank you very much.

Unfortunately we won't be able to test out the import-into-game functionality until release day, and EA has had some problems with that step in the past. Here's hoping all the bugs are worked out. Rios and Salem deserve to look this awesome.

Blizzard

After 15 years of concentrating on the PC market, mainly due to the success of "Warcraft," "Starcraft," "Diablo" and their successors, Blizzard hasn't completely forgotten about the Xboxes and PlayStations of the world. Even if the company isn't making immediate plans to return to consoles, where they once launched "The Lost Vikings" and "Blackthorne," they haven't given up for good, and at least one company rep seems convinced that a return is fated.

The Bravery recently performed at Spike's Video Game Awards. Before the show we made sure to ask them what sort of gaming they do on tour, as well as what their first experiences with video games were. Check the video up top!
