3D Realms may be a much smaller company than it was prior to the "Duke Nukem Forever" development team's departure last May, but laying off internal development manpower may not have killed off their flat-topped action hero. In fact, despite their current legal argument with publisher Take-Two over "DNF," 3D Realms is still predicting new Duke games in the near future.
"The next few years should see a strong resurgence in Duke," 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller said in the new printed issue of Gamesauce, according to Shacknews. "There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production."
Miller went on to add that "almost all" of the projects he referred to are unannounced. That promise should further bewilder everyone who has observed 3D Realms' post-"Duke Nukem 3D" legacy of game delays and no-show titles. Two iPhone games, the "Duke Nukem Trilogy" from Frontline Studios and an Xbox Live Arcade port of "Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project" are among those phantom releases. He also maintained that work on "DNF" may not have ceased entirely, regardless of 3D Realms' layoffs.
Duke Nukem has been a punchline for so long that statements like Miller's barely deserve a blink at this point, but it is notable that he's pushing through with future plans. The most shocking stunt 3D Realms could pull at this point, however, would be to deliver a game.
