8-bit 'Dark Void Zero' To Feature Music By 'Battlestar Galactica' Composer

'Dark Void Zero

Capcom seems to really like the package they put together for "Mega Man 9" and "Mega Man 10," going as far as to design retro box art for their digitally released 8-bit sidescrollers. They've also gone as far as to make an 8-bit DSiware spin-off title based on their upcoming game "Dark Void." "Dark Void Zero" will feature an elaborately concocted fictional history about how it helped inspire "Dark Void," as well as a punchy soundtrack composed by Bear McCreary of "Battlestar Galactica" fame.

"You play Rusty, the first human born in the Void, who must take on the Watchers in a quest to stop their domination of Earth," according to the Capcom Unity blog. "With the aid of Nikola Tesla, and his state-of-the-art rocket pack, Rusty must take down the Watchers and their minions across three intense levels of action and intrigue." Capcom are billing "Dark Void Zero" as a remake of a lost classic that was originally developed for the NES and PlayChoice-10 NES arcade cabinet.

The 500-DSi Point game will be launching in January with an "authentic NES soundtrack" by McCreary, Joystiq reports.

The extra bit of fake heritage is entertainingly crafted, and McCreary's blend of symphonic percussion and internationally meshed music styles helped define "BSG" while it was on the air. We'll see how well he does with 8-bit resources.

What do you think of Capcom's creative direction for "Dark Void Zero"? Do you find their story about the game believable? Share your reactions in the comment section below.
