After 15 years of concentrating on the PC market, mainly due to the success of "Warcraft," "Starcraft," "Diablo" and their successors, Blizzard hasn't completely forgotten about the Xboxes and PlayStations of the world. Even if the company isn't making immediate plans to return to consoles, where they once launched "The Lost Vikings" and "Blackthorne," they haven't given up for good, and at least one company rep seems convinced that a return is fated.
"We will definitely work on a console game at some point," "World of Warcraft" producer J. Allen Brack told Gamasutra. "I have no doubt about that. It's just [a matter of] what game. What makes the most sense?"
Though he understands that Blizzard has built its reputation on PC games for a decade and a half, Brack discouraged anyone who would pigeonhole the company as anti-console.
"It's obviously because we've made only PC games for the last 15 years, but there's a perception, I think, that Blizzard is anti-console, and that's absolutely not the case," Brack said.
He also cited his Blizzard team members gaming habits as evidence that they still pay attention to console gaming.
"[We're] a company of gamers," he explained. "I have two consoles at home. Sam [Didier, art director] has consoles. We're a culture of gamers."
I don't think anyone doubts that Blizzard's employees play console games, but it would be interesting to see how they would approach a re-entry to the market. SNES and Sega owners will obviously remember Blizzard's past console successes, but high school-aged gamers have grown up without ever seeing the company develop a game off of the PC.
