One of the best revamps of a franchise was "Pac-Man Championship Edition" on XBLA. The release managed to revive interest in a property that had long been relegated to mere nostalgia enjoyment, revamping the graphics and gameplay for the 21st century. And now it's on iPhone.
It arrives with many of the same features as the XBLA version, but in somewhat of an odd pricing format. For $3 you get access to the "base" version of the game. This includes 5 Championship Mode mazes and a handful of Mission Mode mazes. In order to access the full 15 Championship mazes and 120 Mission mazes (as well as any of the Challenge Mode mazes), you'll have to pony up an additional $4, bringing the full price of the game to 7 bucks. That is, however, still cheaper than the $10 XBLA installment, which is something.
I haven't gone hands-on with the title yet, but early impressions from TouchArcade seem to imply that the game makes the jump to iPhone extremely well. I hope to be checking it out soon.
