'Borderlands' Second DLC Pack Officially Revealed

Posted 12/10/09 1:30 pm EST by Russ Frushtick in News, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Borderlands

After rumors, speculation and an accidentally broken embargo by a site that shall not be named, the second DLC content pack for "Borderlands" has been revealed by 2K Games today. Titled "Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot," the next pack has takes previous Mad Max similarities and cranks them to 11.

Here's the official rundown on what you can expect in the pack, with the important parts bolded by me so you don't have to do nearly as much reading:

Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot is an intense single-player or cooperative experience that expands the mayhem by adding three new Riot Mode arenas where players will endure an onslaught of Pandora’s baddest enemies. Working together, players will fend off the masses as they fight for fame, honor, and more importantly, loot. Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot also adds a new bank feature, which allows players extra storage capacity for when they encounter one of the more than 16 million weapons that Borderlands has to offer; and the ability to acquire two additional skill points as quest rewards, making their characters even more powerful than before.

So this description has me a little worried. There were two PvE arenas in the main game, and the gameplay in each was basically "kill X number of guys as they spawn in." It was fun, but not very involved, and given the creativity that went into the last DLC pack, I was really hoping for an equal amount of scope this time around. I've reached out to Gearbox to see if we can get some clarification on the content itself, and whether the arenas will be more involved than what appeared in the original game.

That being said, the addition of a bank is great news, and the ability to earn two additional skill points is basically the equivalent of Gearbox increasing the level cap without actually doing it.

The pack will be on sale for $9.99, arriving on 360 on December 29th, with the PS3 version coming January 7th. It'll also come to PC, but no date has been set for that.
