Assassin's Creed 2

When Ubisoft dropped "Assassin's Creed" in late 2007, people were confused. On the one hand, here was this stunningly gorgeous open world with nooks and crannies galore, a cast of thousands and simple controls that made both exploration and combat a joy to experience. On the other hand, you had to deal with a fundamentally flawed progression through the story built upon a series of repetitive acts. What's more, the story itself wasn't related particularly well. As enjoyable as it was to free-run your way through the Crusades-era Holy Lands, much of what was built around the core gameplay mechanics flat-out didn't work.

Enter "Assassin's Creed 2."

Turn on your Xbox 360 today (or any day in the future) and you'll probably notice a bunch of changes. Today marks the launch of the latest dashboard update on the 360, which adds support for Facebook, Twitter and Last.FM for registered Gold Xbox Live users.

We've written quite a bit about the update (which you can read here), but now's a good time to hop online and try it out for yourself. I'll be busy rocking out to my custom Bachman-Turner Overdrive station.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

UPDATE: Activision has denied that "MW2" was banned in Russia and claims that censoring the game for the Russian market was an internal decision. Their statement also asserted that "MW2" was only released for PC in Russia and not for consoles.

Original Story: The infamous "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" airport scene, which ignited controversy in the U.S. and infuriated at least one Australian attorney-general, now faces a full-on national ban. Russia has banned the game outright, forcing an edit and relaunch without the game's so-called "terrorist"-style mission.

Grand Theft Auto 5

That purported city clue from the "Episodes from Liberty City" manual may be a red herring after all if recent comments by one of Rockstar's head honchos are to be believed. Though the existence of "Grand Theft Auto 5" as game in the early stages of development should surprise no one, followers of the series will be interested to know that Rockstar is still in the process of picking a city and characters for the next installment.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Just one week after "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" went on sale, some PC players appear to have found a workaround solution to their dissatisfaction with Infinity Ward's new IWNet system. When Infinity Ward announced that it would forgo dedicated servers for the new matchmaking setup similar to what console players experience, a large number of gamers signed a petition expressing their discontent. Now, some of those code-savvy complainers have reportedly recreated a dedicated server experience by unlocking the game's developer consoler.

Britney Spears continued her quest for world domination today with the release of her new iPhone app: "It's Britney." Alan Wake

Previously mentioned as a hopeful Spring 2010 release, Microsoft's Remedy-developed "Alan Wake" may be a lock for May on the 360. The dark, psychological thriller that is reportedly structured episodically to emulate a TV series has been in the workshop for almost half a decade but emerged at E3 as a playable demo. It also appears to be proceeding on schedule -- pending confirmation of course.
