It's surely no accident that the same week that ushered in Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm for the Xbox 360 now features Facebook's integrated arrival to the PlayStation 3. The social networking site is accessible as of today through the PS3's version 3.10 firmware update, which installs a tailored application and opens up a host of options for broadcasting your activities to contacts.
"Launching Facebook for the PlayStation community is a natural fit for our goal of delivering unparalleled connected experiences -- from connecting our community to each other to connecting our customers to great entertainment downloaded from the PlayStation Store," PlayStation Network's senior director Susan Panico said in press release. "As we pass the third anniversary of PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Network, we're excited to deepen the social experiences of PlayStation Network and kick-off the first phase of our integration with Facebook."
New features include the ability to share trophies and game purchases with friends over Facebook in what Sony calls a "a truly social seamless user experience." Users can also syndicate their in-game events and accomplishments through the new system as they play.
The update brings a pair of noticeable changes aside from Facebook, too, reformatting picture viewing into a grid presentation and allowing for customizable Friends Lists options.
In other words, if you have a lot of avid PS3-playing acquaintances on your Facebook list, expect to lots of new and interesting facts about their kills and scores popping up in your feed very soon.
