Walmart seems to want an early start for the holiday shopping season this year, and a $199 Xbox 360 Arcade bundle with a free $100 gift card will be their lure for gamers. A new ad on Walmart.com indicates that a one-day in-store sale on November 8th will feature the offering along with an assortment of other electronics specials.
The move is part of an attempt by the mega-retailer to spread out deals across November, instead of focusing only on the perennial Black Friday madness that traditionally ensues the day after Thanksgiving, according to Kotaku.
$100 is a pretty nice grab for a gift card. That'll buy a lot of downloadable content for anyone with an established game library or a lot of Xbox Live Arcade games. Other deals in the ad include a $148 Sony Blu-ray player and a $498 Sharp LCD HDTV. If you've got someone on your Christmas list longing for any of those items, it might not be a bad one-day sale to check out.
There will reportedly be a series of similar sales going on for the rest of the month, including game and hardware deals. So these sales should be worth watching if you live near a Walmart. City dwellers like myself in Chicago or New York may feel a little left out, however, since Walmarts are usually pretty remote and the quantities will be limited.
